Subscription payments and featured listings are your obvious sources of revenue for your phpMyDirectory.
However, click ads and affiliate programs are a great way to make extra cash off your directory. Additionally, you can use Google Ads as leverage for free listings to upgrade.
- Free listings will dislike Google Ads because they are content relevant, meaning visitors will see Google advertisements for companies that are similar to theirs.
- Paid listings will have the piece of mind of not having to worry about these ads.
- This encourages upgrades!
EXAMPLE STEPS:
- In the listing_1.tpl and listing_2.tpl files, drop a list drop down content item from
Google Adsense into the same area where a listing's logo usually goes.
- Place a 468x60 banner sized text-only content item at the bottom of
your listing_1.tpl file.
- In listing_2.tpl, add only the 468x60 banner sized text-only content item.
- In your compare chart .tpl, add two more rows manually (X nd + sybolizes your markers):
No Ads in Listing (Top) x +++
No Ads in Listing (Bottom) x x ++
This setup will create top and bottom Google ads for all free level listings.
Listing_2 listings will have Google ads at the bottom of the page only.
Your two main benefits:
- Encourages upgrades
- Generates content relevant revenue in all listing_1 and listing_2 listings.
